Department of English

The Department of English was founded in 1967 along with the college. Late Ram Dutta and Late Haren Boruah were the founding faculty. Mr. Jadumoni Mahanta and Mr. Pradip Konwar later strengthened the department. In 2005, Sankar Biswas joined and the Honours module in English was introduced. Sadananda Borah joined in 2012. The department currently has four members — Sankar Biswas, Sadananda Borah, Bedasri Kalita and Priyam Gogoi.

The first Honours batch graduated in 2008. The department has produced three 1st Class graduates in English, with Ashima Kalita ranking 1st Class 8th under Dibrugarh University in 2018. Alumni have joined as Sub-Inspectors, School Teachers, Marketing Executives and Lawyers.

The department has a Language Lab equipped with electronic gadgets for language and grammar proficiency development. Smart classroom facilities are available. Faculty utilise digital platforms including YouTube, Zoom, Google Meet and e-classrooms for teaching, and actively participate in seminars, workshops and conferences.
